Today we began the first of two days in Australia’s second largest and arguably most beautiful city, Sydney. We got up early so we could be on deck by 6:00 to view our ships entry into the iconic Sydney Harbor and we were glad that we did. I won’t attempt to use words to describe the beauty of entering the harbor as the sun was rising behind us, I’ll let the pictures tell the story.

We started the day with the Viking included tour “Sydney Panorama”. This tour is a quick view of the highlights of Sydney. We began with a drive through the old harbor/warehouse area known as the Rocks. The area has been revitalized and is the home to pubs, restaurants, theaters, shopping and upscale apartments and condos. We then drove through Circular Quay area and around the Botanical Gardens, past the world-famous Opera House (which we tour tomorrow). We continued east of the city center into some of the posher neighborhoods that line the harbor including Double Bay, Vaucluse and around South Head to Bondi beach where we spent an hour exploring the local market and enjoying the lovely beach. After our stop at the beach, we headed back to the harbor area via Paddington, one of the more eclectic Sydney neighborhoods. We also circle Hyde Park and crossed the beautiful Anzac Bridger to the White Bay area.

We spent the afternoon on our own exploring the Rock visiting a very old Pub for lunch and explored the narrow streets and shops of the neighborhood before heading back to the Ship for dinner.

… and then we’ve had this beautiful view from our balacony all day long.

Tonight, our ship moves from our amazing location at Circular Quay in the heart of Sydney to White Bay Cruise Terminal which is the former container ship dock a few miles from here. We’ll have to take a shuttle to get into the heart of Sydney tomorrow.
