Today we visited the tropical island of Koh Samui, Thailand. The center of the island consists of steep rugged mountainous jungle with few inhabitants, but the coastline of the island is an absolute paradise of white sand beaches, spectacular coral reefs and swaying palm trees. Legend has that the name of the island is derived from the Malay word for “safe Haven.” We learned firsthand, that the island is absolutely a haven for sun-loving beach combers and lovers of the water.
This stop was purely a fun in the sun stop. Nothing historical or cultural, just a day at the beach.

We did an optional excursion to the neighboring small island of Koh Pha Ngan for a day of snorkeling and relaxing on the pristine beach. It took roughly 30 minutes on a large speed boat to reach our snorkeling sight where we spent about 45 minutes in the water that was teaming with tropical fish pretty coral.

From there it was a short ride to the secluded Bottle Beach for some relaxing time on the beach. There was a small bar that had restrooms and beach chairs available for our use.

Finally, we were treated to a buffet lunch at a small beach side restaurant called Den’s Bungalow before returning to the ship.

I forgot to mention the beaches were clothing optional however, I only saw one person enjoying the sun in such a way. Sorry, had to keep the photo PG.
Tomorrow we will be at sea making our way toward the beautiful city of Singapore where we will be docked Friday through Sunday.
