Phuket, Thailand — Day 89 of 138

Happy first day of Spring from sunny Phuket, Thailand.

Phuket, (pronounced Foo-ket), is regarded as the pearl of the Andaman Sea located off the west coast of Thailand. The island is one of Southeast Asia’s biggest tourist attractions. Phuket is known for its beautiful beaches and year-round warm climate.

The island is home to approximately 100,000 expatriates and in 2005 Fortune Magazine listed Phuket as one of the top five global retirement destinations. I think most Americans know about Phuket because of the terrible tsunami that devasted parts of the island in 2004 killing over 5,000 people.

Today we decided to have a beach day and help one of our friends celebrate his birthday.

We took a high-speed boat out to Coral Island and enjoyed a day relaxing in the sun, mostly shade. Our tour included the boat ride, beach chairs, an amazing buffet lunch, and two complimentary drinks.

We will be at sea for the next two days. Our next port will be Colombo, Sri Lanka on Sunday, 24 March.
