Updated Itinerary

It’s official, we’re not going through the Red Sea/Suez Canal, but will instead be going around the horn of Africa. Many details remain to be worked out. All we received today was the new itinerary. Specifics concerning exact arrival and departure times along with new excursions should be available within five business days. As you can imagine people have been busy trying to cancel and or rearrange privately arranged tours. A few people plan to get off the ship when we reach Colombo, Sri Lanka and either go home or continue on in India or other places rather than going to Africa. Viking is offering a pro-rated refund/credit to people wishing to leave the cruise because of the changes. No incentives being offered, yet, to stay on the ship. We definitely plan to stay on board and focus on Africa, hopefully we’ll be able to work in a Safari. Here’s a copy of the new map and a list of ports. The itinerary is the same as the original up until Phuket, Thailand on 21 March. I will post additional details as we get them. Hopefully, I’ll get cleaner copies of the following.

  2. Mauritius is an island that Mark Twain said God made the Garden of Eden and corrected his mistakes on Mauritus. There were three visits to animal preserves in different places, we made the big 5, Durban and Cape Town are interesting cities. Namibia has Dune 7 and you get to circle 0 degrees latitude and 0 degrees longitude going up the east coast of Africa.
